TGIF – Good News!

It is Friday again and believe it or not, there is nothing but good news this week in our local world!

Donors, community partners, sponsors and volunteers are named the “game changers of health care in the Tri-Cities” as the Eagleridge Hospital Foundation reached its fundraising goal of $5 million towards the expansion of the Emergency Department.

Tom Morton, Volunteer Board Chair for the Foundation, enthused about the “amazing people, organisations, and businesses that made this happen”.

Construction of this $37.5 M project is now more than 45% complete, and is projected to open April 2022. The new 21,000 square foot facility will have three times the current space, with the most up to the minute technology. The new department will process patients faster and safer, changing the way care is delivered to the Tri-Cities.”

Today the Emergency Dept sees more than double the number of patients than when the hospital was built in 1984. This expansion with its many state of the art technological features will ensure that Eagleridge Hospital continues in its tradition as a health care leader, providing first class care. Congratulations to the Foundation for its persistent advocacy and fund raising and Congratulations to our exceptional community! Well done all.

On the real estate front:-
A pandemic phenomenon has been to greatly increase the rate of Canadian home ownership in the 25- 35 year olds category. Almost half of this age group own their own home and remarkably, 25% of these were bought during our Covid-19 times. 49% of 25-35 yr olds in B.C. own their own home with 27% of them having bought during the last year. Highest rate of purchase in this age group since March last year took place in Atlantic Canada where 42% of a total 48% of young homeowners bought only during this time! Judging by our own team sales, I think that B.C. residents, along with Albertans, contributed significantly to this statistic! People wanted to be closer to family or just wanted a simpler, much less expensive lifestyle – moving from the second least affordable city in the world to small towns and rural communities where homes cost a fraction of those here. Working from home was also a great motivating factor where location of residence is no longer a necessary consideration.
