Let There Be Light!

The latest unanticipated Covid boom is for companies specialising in putting up Christmas lights from Richmond through the Tri Cities. As the call for commercial Christmas lights dwindles, there is at least a 40% increase in the demand for residential lights. We are rebelling against the idea of no celebration and need the cheer of enjoying our own and our neighbor’s lights. Especially this year when our popular Lafarge Lake display is not happening along with darkness at Van Dusen Gardens, Stanley Park and many other spots. We also couldn’t wait to start the Christmas season, and from Hallowe’en were inundating our unsuspecting light hangers.

North Vancouver Council was asked to consider a new curfew on Christmas lights by those who considered the festive lights to be “nuisance lighting”. That resulted in 70 emails to Council objecting to any such discussion! The lights brighten gloomy days, bring a sense of normalcy to very abnormal times and give us hope that we shall indeed all get through this together.
So….if you feel safe on ladders, there are jobs for you out there!!
