TGIF: Spring Is In The Air!

Friday, March 9, 2018

We could feel it this week and Daylight Savings Time returns this weekend. Move your clocks forward by one hour 2AM Sunday and enjoy an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Remember , December 21 was the shortest day, so it’s all positive from here!

Although daylight savings time was first conceived in 1784 by Benjamin Franklin, no one took it seriously enough to implement it until 1916, when it raised a storm of opposition, confusion and prejudice. After all, while the gun at Edinburgh Castle fired at 1PM summer time, the ball on top of the Nelson Monument atop Calton Hill fell at 1PM Grenwich Meantime! The energy savings of summer time were fully recognised during World War II when clocks in Great Britain were put 2 hours ahead during summer – known as double summer time.

International Women’s Day was celebrated in many different ways yesterday with a celebration of how far women have come, along with the recognition of how far still to go. This is the game changing moment in North America with the “Me Too” movement – the clocks of ingrained culture cannot be turned back. Life will be different here in future, which is in stark contrast to women in other countries, where their rights are non existent.

Our school children are leading the way in opposing guns – they will be the major force for gun restrictions and control, successfully defeating the American NRA lobby. How come they have more common sense than the adults? Let’s support them – enough already!

What a busy week! Those of you who are clients receiving our monthly stats analysis will be completely updated as to the current state of the real estate market. The price has to be right in our detached market and the higher ranges of townhomes – inviting prices receive strong interest, while prices based on a past peak result in homes sitting unsold on the market for a long time and winding up with lower sale prices than had they started off realistically. Condos are still king of the market place – right location – and buyers are competing fiercely to buy and paying ever increasing prices.

If you would like to receive our monthly SnapStats report along with our “boots on the ground” analysis, just get in touch and we’d be happy to oblige. Also happy to chat about the market any time.

Enjoy the upcoming sunshine, warmer temperatures and remember – whatever the weather, we always have you covered with that tradition of trust and caring.
