TGIF: Happy Fall!

Happy Fall! Hope all your activities – new and old – going well and that students and teachers alike are settling back into the school routine.

As I was attending a first Council meeting after the summer in Port Moody recently, it struck me on looking at development applications, that this is the only city of our TriCities that does not have an independent living or assisted living facility. Those older Port Moody residents who need that next level of living find themselves in Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam – no longer walking to their familiar shops, coffee places and to visit their friends. It may not seem far away, but without a car it is, and isolates older people. Old friends are the best friends! If this is a concern for you as residents of Port Moody, it is time to make our voices heard and let our Council know that independent and assisted living facilities are necessary for us to “age in place” – a much touted phrase these days. I am very curious as to why these organizations who own and manage these facilities are not looking in Port Moody. Or..are they? And the business case in Port Moody isn’t supportive? I don’t know the answers, but like many others, I know the questions and we should all be asking them. Why should we not be able to age in place as those in surrounding municipalities can? Happy to hear from anyone on this score.
The good real estate news remains that if a home is priced at current market and in good, clean condition, it will sell. If not, it becomes part of a burgeoning inventory of overpriced listings sitting on the market unsold for months. There is a lack of realistically priced homes on the market – an opportunity for potential sellers. Talk to us about this and any other aspects of this interesting real estate market. Real estate is our passion – we love our community and what we do.
